# Introduction  This article is the second in a series of Highlights articles. These articles are meant to disseminate recent scientific progress on Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome (TS). During each year, the article will be a work in progress, maintained as a web page on the [Authorea online authoring platform](https://www.authorea.com/aboutus). After the end of the calendar year, the article will be finalized and submitted for publication as the annual update for [the Tics channel on F1000Research](http://f1000research.com/channels/tics/about-this-channel) \citep*{25580234, Richards_2014highlights}. Please consult ? Tourette syndrome research highlights 2016  for the articles of interest that have been identified so far for 2016.
