Landscape diversity is measured using the Simpson’s D Index:    It is the proportion of habitat in the ith land cover category. D increases as diversity increases.  Biocontrol Services Index (BSI) varies from 0 to 1 with values increasing as the level of predation increases. It is defined as relative reduction in aphid density caused by predator access.  Devoting additional land to corn decreases the level of predation in the landscape therefore increasing the damage that soybean aphids cause.
