#Chile, an unequal country  Chile has distinguished itself for having high inequality levels, despite very large reductions in its poverty rate during the last decades, see Annex 1. As shown if Figure 1, inequality has declined when measured by the Gini index, but a different tendency emerges if we look at the 10/10 index (total income perceived by the 10% richer over the total income perceived by the poorest 10%), which shows an upward trend.
