\section{Abstract}  Previously only documented as a model of auditory onset and offset detection, the properties of the \textsc{skv} algorithm are here explored for its potential as a tool in image processing. These preliminary results show suggest  that \textsc{skv} can be used for edge detection and salience detection in a range of applications.
