\section{Abstract}  Previously only documented as a model of auditory onset and offset detection, the properties of the \text{skv} algorithm are here explored for their its  potential as a tool in image processing. Preliminary results presented here show that \text{skv} can be used for edge detection and salience detection in a range of applications.
