\section{Conclusions}  In this preliminary study we have used the simplest version of the algorithm and made no attempt to tune parameters apart from picking two windows sizes to represent 'fine' and 'coarse' scales differing by a factor of five. The results are interesting and promising and the next step will be to see if the method exhibits some measure of level independence and noise rejection in ways similar to that reported in auditory processing \cite{Coath_2007}.   %  It would also be very revealing to repeat the approachin \citet{Kovacs_2013}  of replacing the (computationally quite expensive) \textsc{skv} algorithm with a trained \textsc{ann}. \textsc{ann} \cite{Kovacs_2013}.
