The seismic profile and section shown in Figure 2 is taken across the north margin of the platform. The lack of internal  deformation in the Edale Basin sediments  is evident in the section with and  the present basin topography is  essentially unchanged from the end of the Visean. Uplift Variscan uplift  and doming of the platformhas  resulted in the removal of between one to two km of Namurian and Westphalian sediment. The maximum cover for the platform Whilst there  is therefore somewhere between one and two km with maximum basin depths no extant thermal modelling of the Edale Basin recent work has been done  on the order Widmerpool Gulf to the south  offive km attained towards  the end Derbyshire Platform. This is part of ongoing assessment of the shale gas resource  of the Carboniferous. Bowland-Hodder unit.
