There are many websites dedicated to pro-ana content and they are readily accessible to the general public. Although many sites include pages of in-depth self-disclosures and self-expression (Hsiung, 2000; Stern, 2000), we selected the Pro-Ana-Nation message board within LiveJournal based on the scope of its members, design, and interactive content between disclosers and recipients. In LiveJournal, the message boards consist of discussion threads where users can reply to initial messages (posts). For the purposes of this study on disclosures, the unit of analysis is the initial message post for each discussion thread and excludes replies.  \subsection{Twitter Environment}  Twitter supports communication systems known as “social awareness streams” (Naaman, Boase,&  Lai, 2010). Unlike LiveJournal which has no limit for the amount of text an initial post can have, Twitter messages, “tweets,” are limited to 140 characters per post. Moreover, certain symbols in tweets serve different functions. The “@” symbol followed by a username (e.g., @username) directs or tags another user in the message so he or she may read it on their personal timeline or stream. Hashtags (“#”) are symbols used in Twitter posts to indicate keywords or topics within a “tweet.” Users can use hashtags anywhere in their tweets to categorize messages and make them more discoverable in a Twitter Search. For example, the tweet “I am skinny, my bones are beautiful. #proana” posted by a public account is retrievable by anyone searching for #proana.
