The acquisition paradigm (Figure \ref{fig:paradigm}) consisted of a video shown in a computer screen that contained  alternating 6 s blocks of rest and task, that involved doing additions from a series, multiplication of a series or addition of fractions from a series. The usage of the series had been proposed as a simple way to facilitate the termination of the task once the block duration ends. The same volunteer repeated the paradigm three times, though the order or starting point of the arithmetic tasks was changed (or so he said), to avoid habituation. The acquisition was done using the g.tec software g.recorder and data was sampled at 256 Hz. For data analysis, the open source toolbox and graphic user interface EEGlab version 13\_4\_4\_b (http://sccn.ucsd.edu/eeglab/) was used. It was running under MatLab R2011a, version 7.12.0.635, commercialized by The MathWorks, Inc., Natick, Massachusetts, United States.
