Plots \textbf{Figure 2.} Plot of the mutual information of the separated changes in pressure for the forward and backward waves as a function of wave speed.
On the left is the result using the whole of the The measured data $P$ and
$U$. On $U$ shown to the right
is the result using only the ensemble average data $pe$ and $ue$. In both figures in Figure 1 were used in the
calculation. The vertical dashed line represents the wave speed calculated
from using the sum-of-squares method $c_{ss}$, assuming that $\rho = 1040 kg/m^3$. The horizontal dashed line at the bottom
of each figure represents the mutual information of the pressure and the velocity
$I(dP,dU)$ that were used to calculate the forward and backward changes in pressure. The short dashed line at the top left indicates the mutual information of the pressure alone
$I(dP,dP)$ and the short dashed line to the right indicates the mutual information of the velocity
alone. alone $I(dU,dU). The dots on the continuous line indicate the values of $c$ for which mutual information was
actually calculated.
