The LUPM project for LSST

The LUPM group has been defining a project that matches its scientific interests, while guaranteeing large overlap with the activities of colleagues within LSST-France. This is already proving fruitful, as the group is building its “knowledge base” on this new area of research. Furthermore, the LUPM group is paying attention to propose a project that minimize the potential impact in the short term on scarce technical and computing human resources in the lab. This approach has been positively acknowledged by the LSST-France board, and it is backed up by the group’s ability to leverage, thanks to existing collaborations in the context of Fermi, extensive experience shared with the LSST SLAC computing group on computing aspects of the LUPM program. In the following sections, we outline the science goals of the LUPM group, the planned technical activities that we presented as areas where we can adequately and reasonably quickly contribute, and a detailed layout of the scientific activities and short-term work plan that we are undertaking.
