\section{Gantt Chart}  \label{sec:gantt}  %Please do not forget to add new symbols to the nomenclature e.g.: \nomenclature{$t_{element}$}{Thickness coefficient of plate \nomunit{[$-$]}}  The Gantt chart shows all tasks and the time spent on separate phases throughout the project. It serves as a check whether milestones are met and whether delays occur. A short version of the Gantt chart is shown in Figure~\ref{fig:gantt_short}.  \begin{figure}  \includegraphics[width = \textwidth]{Figures/Mid_Term_Gantt.png}  \centering  \caption{Gantt chart showing the planned progress of the project.}  \label{fig:gantt_short}  \end{figure}  During the project, tasks are performed simultaneously if possible to use the resources, meaning the group members, as efficiently as possible. In order to assure quality checks of the group members, at least two will work on each task together.  After having finished the Initialisation Phase and the Early Conceptual Design phase, the focus is on the Conceptual Design phase and the Preliminary Design Phase.  \subsection{Initialisation and Early Conceptual Design phase}  These phases of the project have been finished and the milestones were met. Thus, it was possible to proceed to the next stages of the project.  \subsection{Conceptual Design phase}  This phase involves the trade-offs of subsystems and configurations as well as the respective literature studies as preparation. Furthermore, tasks concerning the conceptual sizing, the aerodynamic characteristics and the performance of the overall aircraft are discussed. The crucial tasks in this phase are the configuration and subsystem literature studies and trade-offs. To avoid missing out on important information and making unreasoned design decisions, several days are allocated to these tasks. Furthermore, tasks are performed parallely whenever possible to not create shortcomings in the final stages of the phase. Also, sizing tasks such as the Class 1 and Class 2 estimations that are important for the other tasks are planned to be performed over 3 days, for the class 1, and 2 days, for the class 2.  These tasks are also identified as bottlenecks since their results serve as input for other activities that have to be performed, such as the stability and control characteristics and the weight estimations of the subsystems, as well as the RAMS and aerodynamic characteristics  \subsection{Preliminary Design phase}  Having chosen a final design configuration in the Conceptual Design phase, the Preliminary Design phase focuses on defining the aircraft in depth. Therefore, the system characteristics, the structural characteristics and the individual subsystems are designed in detail. Since these tasks are crucial for the final design, 4 to 5 days each are allocated for these tasks. Thereafter, a sensitivity analysis for the entire design can be performed, to investigate whether the designs can be improved. This finalises the design. Additional tasks to proof that the aircraft is realisable are performed. These tasks can be performed within 1 or 2 days and involve activities like the manufacturing plan and the marketability.  Thereafter, the project is finalised.
