The final consideration we make here is to limit the maximum pulsar period that must be supported by the SKA1 pulsar timing instrumentation. We foresee little problem in enabling the instrumentation to support pulsar periods of up to 20 seconds. This encompasses the entire known pulsar population and leaves leeway to observe longer period systems if needed. For any corner cases with periods beyond this, we advise that a separate mode that records dynamic time-frequency data should be used.
