# Rule 5. Link your data to your publications  Make the all  data(and code)  utilized by your own publications available _with_ the paper. The data may include tabular data files, spreadsheets, images, graphs, databases, etc.For code, see Rule 6.  At a _minimum_, zip up and post a package of files (data, codes, documentation on parameters, metadata, license information, and/or lists of links to such) with a persistent online identifier (see Rule 2). Many Journals journals  now offer standard ways to contribute data to their archives and link it to your paper, often with a persistent identifier, and if the Journal journal  hosting your paper doesn't, you can get your own (again, see Rule 2). Better, Whenever possible,  embed citations (links) to your data and code, each with its own persistent identifier, right into the text of your paper, just like you would reference other literature. Many Journals journals  already allow such links, and if yours do not, see Rule 10!
