As shown in Figure \ref{fig:span_delay}, 2,  the delay is thus measured as the time difference between the date of a preprint submission and a subsequent spike in Twitter mentions (the day in which an article receives the highest volume of related tweets) or arXiv downloads (the day in which it receives the highest volume of downloads). The time span is the temporal ``duration'' of the response, measured as the time lag between the first and the last Twitter mention or download of the article in question.
