conceptual model of how carbon (C) subsidies alter the resource space for bacteria and phytoplankton. Inputs of labile carbon should decrease the dependence of bacteria on algal carbon exudates and increase the competition of phosphorus (P). This will result in decreased biomass pool size for algae and increased biomass pool size for bacteria. Since the planktonic communities are the seed pool for biomass formation we hypothesized that changes in these pool sizes will alter the composition of the biofilm communties among treatments that varied in C subsidies
