In order to further analyze the origins of the NDR, we explore the path integral approach to solve the same double barrier setup. Particularly, we are interested in determining whether it originates from resonant or sequential tunneling. Since contributions from various possible paths of the electron through the double barrier can be considered (Figure \ref{fig:paths}), Feynman’s path integrals should give a deeper insight into the phenomenon of resonant tunneling.
