More broadly, as \code{pandas} is becoming the de-facto standard for data analysis in python, doing so simplifies interoperability with the rest of the tools in the ecosystem.  \subsection{Snapshot--DataFrame Interface} \subsection{Loading Data}  \label{interface}  \code{gadfly} is designed for use with simulation data stored in the HDF5 format, with file access provided by \code{h5py}.   While we aim to keep \code{gadfly} as general as possible, some assumptions about the storage format are necessary.
