Succesful collaboration in an enterprise context requires a clear strategy for communication. Prof.’s Munkvold and Päivärinta have examined more than 50 cases of collaboration, and found three areas that require careful handling: Management needs to have a clear enterprise model of communication, with a strong focus on objectives (what we want to achieve) and impacts (what are we actually doing). This overall plan needs to be linked with a communication and content model with plans for what types of content to store and share, the technological solutions, rules for creation of content, metadata and roles detailing who is responsible for what. Finally, Change management is an overall principle for collaboration. Collaboration on an enterprise level demands changes to the ways employees are used to work, and change is always scary. Therefore, we need projects in place aimed at handling and directing change to avoid negative consequences and resistance from employees.
