Assumptions and Dependencies

Generally, we assume that the system will be in use under reasonable weather and climate conditions – that is, if a person should not be driving (for example, due to a hurricane), we do not expect the PBAS to function either. We assume that it will be deployed in a civilian context (no military, police, or other emergency responders). Some assumptions have also been made about the disability status of the driver; auditory warnings are effective for a hearing person, but not for the deaf.

We also assume that the necessary hardware devices, such as sufficiently powerful embedded computers for interpreting sensor data, will be affordable by the time the PBAS is being integrated into real vehicles. Related to that hardware concern, we infer that sufficiently efficient signal analysis algorithms will also be available.

Finally, we assume that drivers are in general reasonably responsible, and that the warnings will usually be respected and the system usual left on.
