\section{Stellar evolution
models}
\label{mesa} models and tidal forces}
\label{tides}
MESA is really great. \citep{pax15}
In the absence of external influences, all evolved giant stars with a convective outer layer should exhibit solar-like oscillations. However, that is clearly not the case for three of the seven RG/EBs in our sample. \citet{gau14} proposed that stronger tidal interactions from short-period binaries and increased magnetic activity on spotty giants are linked to absent or damped solar-like oscillations.
Now we examine that. With MESA models, a quantitative comparison of how active each star is, and a quantitative estimation of tidal forces being exerted in each binary over its lifetime.
