The image at lower left shows a surface density projection through the simulated molecular cloud. Each magenta box marks one of the filaments that we analysed. For each of these we show a zoom in of the surface density and two velocity plots. The middle panels show the density-weighted line of site velocity through the cloud, summed along the width {   it W}  of the filament (i.e. the {\it L--v} plane of the {\it L--W--v} postion--postion--velocity cube). The top panel shows the density of individual `detected' velocity components, as described in the text.
