\section{Sleep}  The researcher, Bruce McNaughton, tracked the activity of neurons in the hippocampi of rats while learning new information. The patterns of activation in specific neurons that were very active during the learning were repeated when the rat was sleeping, indicating memory consolidation of the new information. \cite{10753801} information.\cite{10753801}  Brain imaging studies in humans have shown similar hippocampal activity and have demonstrated that during REM sleep, memory consolidation genes that help form new connections between neurons are activated. In order to maximize an individual?s individual's  efficiency in learning, one must obtain sufficient REM sleep to consolidate the information they are learning. Insufficient sleeping cycles results in decreased attention, executive function, quantitative and logic skills, mood, and motor skills. \cite{19742409} skills.\cite{19742409}
