Maybe not... If you are interested in just inserting simple mathematics or simple inline LaTeX, you do not need to use a full fledged LaTeX mode described in the rest of this document. You can write both math symbols, simple formulae, and even simple LaTeX using the equation button ${x^2}y$ in the toolbar.
