\subsection{Pressure Scale Height}  In hydrostatic equilibrium we can define the total pressure scale height, $\hp$, as   \begin{equation}  -\frac{\D \ln \P}{\D \p}{\D  r} \equiv \frac{1}{\hp} = \frac{\rho g}{P} g}{\p}  \end{equation}  where $\P$ is the total pressure ($\P_{gas} + \P_{rad}$). The pressure scale height is a measure of the distance over which the pressure changes by an appreciable fraction of itself.
