The other important point is that oxygen present in the CdS layer significantly suppresses the interdiffusion (Wu, 2004; Yan et al., 2001). It allows us to have better control of the formation of intermixed  ($CdS_xTe_{1-x}$) near the CdS/CdTe junction, giving benefit for the solar cell performance.
