Various works, such as [1-4] have noted that the KGL matrix allows the direct calculation of a generator dispatch profile that appears to minimize active power losses. Notably the literature gives no explanation for how this impressive result is achieved.  The recent work of Abdelkader et al. [5-7], which draws on the Ybus partitioning approach introduced in [8], offers useful insight here. Crucially, [6] shows how transmission losses can be separated into three distinct components. One component of these losses arises solely because of mismatched generator voltages, which causes excess currents to flow through the system [5]. This letter demonstrates how the KGL matrix can give a generator dispatch profile which equalizes generator complex voltages, so no circulating currents will flow and losses are minimized.
