Sample figure from an \ipython\ notebook illustrating the $\chi^2$ test. The notebook generates a ``realistic'' dataset (left) by constructing a linear relation with normally distributed errors. The middle panel does the same, but the errors are drawn from a distribution with a much smaller $\sigma$ than indicated by the errorbars. The dataset on the right contains two $5\sigma$ outliers. To see the notebook in action, click the \verb|Launch Ipython| link under the figure. Occasionally the page fails to load if the server is busy; if that happens, simply reload the page.
