The change in the ammonium concentration ranged from -4.6 to 7.4 mg N m\textsubscript{-2} d\textsubscript{-1} with a mean change of -0.69 mg N m\textsuperscript{-2} d\textsuperscript{-1} and was not affected by the days of incubation, or the presence of leaf litter or added nutrients (Table \ref{tab:nut_anova}, Fig. \ref{fig:nit_flux}).  The change in  ortho--phosphate concentration showed a significant increase on was significantly affected by the days of incubation (Table \ref{tab:nut_anova}). On  days 2 and 7 of the incubation but there was an increase in the ortho--phosphate concentration followed by a decline in the change in concentration as the incubation progressed (Fig. \ref{fig:nut_flux}). There  was not no effect of the leaf litter or added nutrients on the change in ortho--phosphate concentration (Table \ref{tab:nut_anova}).
