This milestone report describes a summary of findings as it relates to the research done in the subject area of Software Defined Networking (SDN). SDN is a paradigm switch in the area of networking. This switch has already had large implication from large data center providers to mobile communications providers. Networking is inherently complex and there are significant amounts of protocols that try to manage this complexity. The industry trend is a significant increase in the number of devices that are communication, power, or processing constraint that need connectivity to cloud based services. Innovation has occurred in silos and networking is one of these silos. This suboptimization to innovation has let to a lack in ability to a system wide innovation. We'll explore as part of this project how all constituents can collaborate and be aware of the different constrains and allow for dynamic system wide optimization. We see SDN being a key enabler to mediate this problem.  \end{abstract}  \keywords \textbf{Keywords}  OpenFlow, Software Defined Networking (SDN), Distributed data, Data plane, Distributed control plane, Policy-based routing (PBR), Flow, Data center, Open source, Routing protocols
