If no 年號 is used, the usage of the lunar calendar is almost obligatory, as the number of a reign without a reference to the era might be very ambiguous and confusing. As expected we see a sharp drop of the usage of the Chinese sexagenary calendar, which represents also the appropriation of time through the modern and industrialized state.
