While the generation of H$_{2}$ had shown to be possible, Kamimura et al. had shown that some difficulties existed with n-doped InGaN. Working past this roadblock, AlOtaibi et al. demonstrated stable photoelectrochemical water splitting using a double-band photoanode in acidic solution that had been n-doped with Si. The resulting anode not only split water, but also demonstrated reduced surface depletion and increased current conduction, leading to conversion efficiencies of up to 27 percent. Indeed, the nanowire photoanode showed virtually no degradation after 10 hours, with GaN hypothesized to serve as a protective shell about the InGaN anode. In the meanwhile, the photoelectrochemical cell served to evolve 100
