In the absence of a magnetic field, adiabatic gravity waves obey the WKB dispersion relation   \begin{equation}  \label{eqn:gravdisp}  \omega^2 - \frac{k_\perp^2}{k^2}N^2 \, = 0\,  . \end{equation}  Here $\omega$ is the wave angular frequency, $k$ is the wave number, $k_\perp$ is the wave number in the horizontal direction (perpendicular to the gravitational field), and $N$ is the Brunt-Vaisala frequency.
