\label{fig:cartoon}   In normal red giant stars stars,  acoustic waves excited in the envelopecan  couple to gravity waves in the radiative core. In the presence of a magnetic field in the stellar core, the gravity waves are scattered in at  regions of high magnetic field strength. Since the field cannot be spherically symmetric, the waves are scattered into waves with high angular degree $\ell$ that cannot return to the stellar surface and are trapped within the core. We refer to this as the magnetic greenhouse effect.
