Generally acoustic waves excited in the envelope of red giant stars can couple to gravity waves in the radiative core. However, in the presence of a strong magnetic field in the stellar core, the p-modes couple to magneto-gravity and pure Alfven waves. Regardless of the details of this process, the energy leaking from the envelope through the evanescent region is trapped into a large number of modes with high harmonic degree $\ell$ (magnetic greenhouse effect).
