\section{Conclusions}  There are different ways to describe the state of an ecosystem and the dynamical of species therein. Thus, measures of emergence, self-organization, homeostasis, autopoiesis and complexity can complement the description of ecosystems and species dynamics, and they could be viewed as ecological indicators at different scales.     In ecology in terms of complexity and structural complexity have been not explicitly defined. From this approach, we can propose that a complex ecosystem is one which the balance between the change (emergence) and regularity (self-organization) of their components is reached in terms of their autonomy (autopoiesis) and (homeostasis). For structural complexity of ecological systems, we can define that corresponds with the study of complexity of the elements and their relations  Measures proposed are comparable and easily applicable across lakes and generally good qualitative and qualitative agreement among lake types.   There were clear differences in pattern between types
