In figure \ref{fig:profile_TE} we have the mode profile of a 500 nm x 220 nm waveguide at quasi-TE mode. mode at a wavelength of 1550 nm.  Confinement of the mode is well in the center, with some of the field outside the waveguide which contributes with the propagation losses.
