Abstract

This paper develops a rationalist explanation for joining the unitary patent system in the European Union. I argue that the domestic share of innovators, the domestic costs of patenting, and market size will condition the timing and level of support. My statistical tests do not allow me to reject the null hypothesis that these determinants have zero effect on the propensity to cooperate. Stop reading here.
