Initially it looked like there were two strategies for addressing superintelligence: working on benevolent AI (as MIRI is doing); and a strategy like Neuralink, where the goal is to maintain intellectual parity with the AIs, so humans are as powerful as AIs, and are not dependent on the benevolence of AIs. The more I think about it, the less clear it is to me that Neuralink delivers on that latter strategy; a cortex with a superintelligent computer attached to it would be just as unpredictable as a superintelligent computer without the cortex.
