The purpose of this research is to examine the seismic activity and deformation of the Southern Alps region in South Island, New Zealand, where the main tectonic feature is the Alpine Fault. I will investigate the spatiotemporal distribution of the seismic activity in the Southern Alps across the Australian-Pacific plate boundary, in greater detail than afforded by New Zealand's national network. To do that I will mainly use data collected from the Southern Alps Microseismicity Borehole Array (SAMBA) and a number of permanent stations operated by GeoNet. In addition, I will also utilise data from other temporary networks e.g Wisconsin New Zealand Array Regional Deployment (WIZARD), Deep Fault Drilling Project (DFDP10 and DFDP-13) and Alpine Fault Array (ALFA-08).
