Abstract

Rodent studies utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) have demonstrated that rats can be trained to navigate and forage in virtual environments Hölscher 2005, Aronov 2014. Neural imaging results from these studies differ, however, between setups; the differences (e.g., decreased theta frequency and spatial information in hippocampal place cells and entorhinal grid cells) have been attributed to sensory conflict between systems involved in perception of self-motion Ravassard 2013, Aronov 2014, Aghajan 2014. Virtual Reality immersion has also been limited thus far to readouts of 2D locomotion and performance on spatial tasks.
