Alfredo began work at age five at his father's pemex station ,it was hard work but Alfredo didn't mind,he was a illegal mexican immigrants who use to work in a farmin central California and for just $155 a week,he lived in a decrepit truck camper in the middle of a farm field ,when he deported from there ,he moved to the fence in calexico where his cousin was there
The Quinones family was almost middle-class but in 1976 the mexican government devalued the peso and throwing the country into turmoil,they lost everthing ,however Alfredo worked alot to bring in extra money,still he kept up with school .shortly after he decided to leave Mexico in search of better option so he headed with his cousin for the san joaquin valley to work in the field a few month later Quinones leaved the farm and moved to Stockton and also took a job in a rail yard so he could attend night school at san Joaguin Delta college ,learning English ,after graduating with an associate's degree in 1997Quinones was acepted to the university of california ,he became a teacher's assistant in there department and also tok a job at a men's clathing store .after writing his thesis on the role of drug receptors in the brain and teaching calculus,he stood a good chance of getting into Harvard Medical school ,when he graduated from there and continued his training in neurosurgery at the university of california,san francisco,could an illegal Mexican field worker become a brain surgeon ?Alfredo Quinones became a doctor when he was 40years old .not only he is a talented and conscientious surgeon but he is very sensitive to the needs of patients he said that his background allows him to intract with his patients in amore humantistic way.
