Susheel Mittal

Susheel Mittal did MSc (Hons Sch) and PhD in chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India in 1986 and served there for 3 years. He joined as faculty in Thapar University in 1989 and now Senior Professor with 28 years of experience in teaching and research. Presently, a Deputy Director, has served as Dean (Research) and Head of Sch of Chem and Biochem at TU. His active areas of research are: synthetic inorganic ion exchangers, chemical sensors, heavy metal pollution in water, Ambient air quality and its effects on Human health, ionophore based voltammetric and potentiometric chemical sensors, whole cell based biosensors, ion sensitive field effect transistors. He has published more than 100 research papers in national and international journals.15 students have completed PhD under his guidance and 10 more are doing at present. Dr Mittal has also guided an M Phil student, 10 ME/MTech students in the area of Environmental Engineering and 15 MSc (Chemistry). He has completed 9 research projects funded by Govt of India and 3 more are running. He has visited USA, Belgium, and Japan for exchange of research work. He has set up a Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station jointly with IITM, PUNE (Ministry of Earth Sciences) at a cost of about Rs 1.0 Crore. He became a Fellow of RSC in 2015 and as a member of Advisory Board of ANALYTICAL METHODS (Impact Factor 1.855), an international journal of high repute published by RSC (UK).
