Dr. Robert Ritch holds the Shelley and Steven Einhorn Distinguished Chair in Ophthalmology and is Surgeon Director Emeritus and Chief of Glaucoma Services at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. He has broadened our understanding of the etiologies and mechanisms of glaucoma and innovated medical, laser, and surgical treatment. He has co-authored or edited 9 textbooks and over 1700 medical and scientific papers, book chapters, articles and abstracts. He has presented nearly 700 lectures worldwide, including over 40 named lectures and has received over 40 awards and medals. His awards include the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Ophthalmologist of the Year, the Louis Rudin Award, the Dominick Purpura Distinguished Alumnus Annual Award (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), the HRH Prince Abdulaziz Al-Saud Prevention of Blindness Award, the Ahti Tarkkanen Medal (Finland), the Jose Rizal International Medal, the El-Maghraby International Achievement Award, the inaugural Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society International Achievement Award, and the Moacyr Alvaro Gold Medal (Brazil). He was Guest of Honor of the American Glaucoma Society (2013) and the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Congress (2014). He was elected to Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Council of Ophthalmology. He served as Vice-President of ARVO in 2006-2007. Dr. Ritch has trained over 150 clinical and research fellows.
