The Johannes Kepler University in Linz hosts the longest standing statistics curriculum in the german speaking area since 1968. It has gradually evolved to an internationally renowned programme and its graduates are sought for in the labour market. Particularly it has been awarded one of the few European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS, see \cite{Zwick_2016}) certificates of the European Union.
In the presentation I will report about the evolvement to the current curriculum and emphasize recent adaptations that were implemented to address new challenges posed to statistics education by the Big Data/Data Science debate. I will demonstrate that a modern programme can be fruitfully developed and run by a rather small department such as ours.
