Metagenomics and Microbiome Datasets in GigaScience Database (GigaDB).

GigaScience is an online only publishing journal that covers the entire life sciences sector with the emphasis on research using 'Big Data', whether that be next generation sequencing projects covering hundreds of samples, or micro-CT imaging at high resolution of just a few specimens.

GigaScience database, or GigaDB as its known, is a database supporting the journal which is designed to host any and all data associated to a GigaScience manuscript. In order to reduce redundancy GigaDB leverages extensive use of linking to external databases who host particular types of data, such as the sequence read archive (SRA) and Metabolights. This article will focus on the use of GigaDB as a repository for the growing field of metagenomics and microbiome studies.
