Overview
Students will classify the materials to conductive and insulator objects then they will solve a problem dividing pizza for equal pieces for two child so each one will get two pieces by using coding.
Vocabulary
- Electronic circuit
- Conductive
- Insulator
- Fraction
Objectives
- Students will know the differenecs between the conductive objects and insulator objects.
- Students will understand the fraction.
- Create a logical sequence in Scratch to be played in the real world.
- Utilize Makey Makey to have students physically interact with multiple choice questions
Next Generation Science Standards
- 4-PS3-2 Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.
- 4-PS3-4 Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
Common Core Standards
3.NF.A.1 Understand a fraction \(\frac{1}{b}\) as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction \(\frac{a}{b}\) as a quantity formed by a part of size \(\frac{1}{b}\).
Required Project Materials
- Makey Makey for each group.
- Laptop
- Paper, wood, plastic cups, play dough, aluminium foil and copper wire.
- Alligator Clips
Multimedia Resources
Before the Lesson/ Background Information
Let the students use their previous knowledge of coding.
The Lesson
Part 1: Introduction (10 mins)
Give each group differents materials and a Makey Makey kit then, have the students conect the alligator clips to each object and start testing the piano game by pressing on each object. When the students realise their some objects does not produce a sound that means it's an insulator object and the other objects are conductives.
