Abstract

Impulsive (IN) noise and Narrowband (NBI) noise are the noise types that are majorly known to affect the performance of a Powerline Communication (PLC) channel extensively. Remarkable work has been done to model the noise types individually, as a result they have been mostly dealt with or addressed individually in a channel not as a combination. This paper serves to explore the conventional mitigation methods and the behavioral results of simulated  signal in relation to either noise type, IN or NBI. The performance of the Matlab simulated system is viewed as a plot of Symbol Error Rate (SER) against Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). The modulation scheme used is Binary Phase Shifting (BPSK) scheme whose demodulation was Hard Decision based.
