Discrete Math is a subject that is often overlooked and understudied. Discrete Math is the study of structure and quantities that can be broken into neat little pieces as opposed to being continuous. It is comprised of a collection of three different branches of mathematics. The three branches that are covered in discrete mathematics are combinatorics, number theory, and graph theory. Combinatorics is the mathematics of counting, or combining sets. Number theory deals with the relationship of numbers, particularly positive integers. Graph theory will look at the properties and different applications of graphs in mathematics. The study of discrete mathematics challenges with higher-level thinking and benefits students at any level and is an important addition to a math series program.
