    Oh, an empty article!

You can get started by double clicking this text block and begin editing. You can also click the Insert button below to add new block elements. Or you can drag and drop an image right onto this text. Happy writing!

    Ick! LaTeX!

Computers have improved the ability of academics to create written works. No longer do we have to send our manuscripts to a typist for preparation. However, there have been many issues with programs such as Word, and even LaTeX editors, as these were intended to be used by one author at a time only, with a single file needing to be passed around. Google Docs attempted to solve this by putting the document on the cloud. Authors can simultaneously edit a document, but formatting and citation issues still exist. Authorea represents a new addition to the toolkit of the academic, as they can be ?edited in real time by multiple people.

    Usability issues

    • Toolbar needs to be much smarter - hitting H1 should convert current paragraph to a heading, not stick a # in the middle of it
    • Toolbar buttons are not markdown-appropriate - eg B should be emph
    • Toolbar stops working after a few minutes.
    • If I hit refresh I lose my work
    • How do I reorder / split / merge blocks? (I reordered the blocks, but now the numbered headings are wrong.. oops)

    Why blocks?

What are these block things for?

Why do I want my article cut up into blocks?

    I don't buy this
